Open Sessions every Sunday

London Lionhearts Volleyball Club is new holding Open Sessions every Sunday from 4 to 6pm at Bethnal Green S.C

It was originally decided that ALL the players joining our open session would need to help cover the price of the court hire as the cost of open sessions were not included in the player's annual fees (which include: 2h training per week, referees, balls). However, after reviewing our financial situation, the club has agreed to waive the fee for all the Lions members. Other players are welcome to join us, but will be charged £4 per session.

When: Every Sunday until the end of the season (around May), except for bank holiday weekend and "All Nations" tournament weekends.

Where: Bethnal Green Sport Centre, Gosset street, E2 6NW

Time: 4 to 6pm

Women 1 lost 3-2 against Malory Eagles

On a cold Monday evening, Women Lions 1 played on Malory Eagles’ territory, aiming for the 3rd place of the table. The beginning of the game was not their best as the team hadn’t played together for more than 3 weeks. It took them some time to get used to the Arctic temperatures of the gym.

They lost the first 2 sets 25-16, 25-16 but bounced back in the 3rd where they left Malory with 18 points. The Lions were defending every single ball and the standard of the game increased significantly in the 4th. The guests fought a late comeback from Malory to win it 25-23 and make it all square.  Then came the fifth set, "lottery". It all started very well with a 4-0 advantage but the opposition came back strong at 13-13. Both teams got match points before Malory scored 3 in a row to claim the game with a narrow 17-15 win. It was a close game and a real shame for the Lions who are now looking forward to their next game against Lions 2 who recently took a set off the mighty ULU.

Come in numbers to witness the derbiest of the derbies in the Premiership on Monday 25th January at Bethnal Green.

Look at the Pictures Section for some action shots from Nico, our part-time photographer (when he is not looking after the website)

See you all next Monday!

2nd payment of the club fees

On behalf of the executive committee, I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year, full of happiness both on and off court. I hope you have started 2010 very well. If not, well ... hang on, there are only 350 days left till 2011! :-)

I would also like to remind the players who have paid the first part of their fees in 2009 that they can now transfer the rest of it to the club. See the details on http://www.londonlionhearts.co.uk/volleyball/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9&Itemid=13

We have to pay the gym and our deadline is January 31st. So please make your payment as soon as possible.
