The London Volleyball Association (L.V.A.) is the constituted body that runs Volleyball in London. An elected Executive of members manages all aspects of its work.
The Association looks to promote all aspects of Volleyball (the indoor game, outdoor on grass, beach and disabled versions). Its main functions are running the London Volleyball League, supporting Junior Development and running Volleyball events in London. It also organises Coaching, Referee and Scorers Courses
The leagues are open to any team in London. However there are also other teams in London that play in the English National League and teams in the outer reaches of the Region that play in leagues run by the surrounding Counties, Essex, Herts., Surrey, and Kent.
Both the Men's and Women's leagues attract strong teams, and their aim is to promote the playing of high standard volleyball in London, which is found in the Premier Divisions.
The Foundation League is aimed at providing recreational Volleyball to a wide range of the London Community.
The Association enters representative teams in the Interregional Junior and the senior County/Area Cup competitions, organised by the English Volleyball Association (EVA).
Junior Development is a priority for the L.V.A.. We encourage established clubs to run junior sessions and look to improve links between clubs and schools. The L.V.A. also offers financial assistance to youngsters who show potential so that they can attend national training camps.
The L.V.A. reflects the diversity of Londoners and the L.V.A. is committed to maintaining this diversity. We are particularly concerned with ways to increase the number of girls and women participating in volleyball at all levels.
Opportunities for London Volleyball in the forthcoming years
Sport England has identified Volleyball as a Development Sport, and is supporting Volleyball England's Whole Sport Plan for 2006-9. The L.V.A., recognised as the London Region of the E.V.A., is supporting that plan.
The L.V.A. is also working to develop support for the Olympic Games in London in 2012. If you want to get involved, get in some experience by taking up offers to help at events in London during the coming years.
